Shunkan
Shunkan is a ‘90s-inspired rock band formed by Los Angeles native and half-Japanese front-woman Marina Sakimoto (vox/guitar). Her band includes Reese Jensen (bass), Dave Puckett (guitar), Traz Mooso (guitar), and Ford Crispino (drums).
Sakimoto grew up in a mixed household of American and Japanese cultures in Southern California. Her heritage, affinity to both cultures, and sense of misplacement led her to work with feelings of isolation and introspection.
Shunkan’s first EP Honey, Milk and Blood and debut album The Pink Noise were covered and highly reviewed by media publications The Guardian, NME, Noisey, Spin, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, and others alike. Her latest self-released sophomore album Cumberland Falls was placed on NPR’s Staff Picks of 2019.
